Love this gig, kopasetic audience, brill Fred, delectable wine, groovy drums with Al Dente and I have a ball finding making interesting song groupings to keep it fresh. Particularly loving 'It Ain't Necessarily So', not surprising as music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song comes from Porgy and Bess (1935) where it is sung by the character Sportin' Life, who expresses his doubt about several statements in the Bible.
The role of Sportin' Life was created by John W. Bubbles. Other notable incarnations of the character include the amazing Cab Calloway on stage and Sammy Davis, Jr. in the 1959 film. Wow. With a sinuous and tricky melody that sinks into a lovely movable two chord I IV progression, it always feels as if there are so many possibilities as to where to go.
And if you get a chance and can pop over to my soundcloud http://bit.ly/1NjcAW9 I would be so so grateful!
I'd love to hear your comments!
